Mu Sigma Alpha
Mu Sigma Alpha Award
The Mu Sigma Alpha Award was established as an honorary society to give recognition to those students of mortuary science who have displayed outstanding merit in scholarship and who have conducted themselves as good citizens of the schools they have attended. The Recipients of this award have been carefully screened by the faculty of each institution and constitute 10% of the graduating class. The name of the society is MU Sigma Alpha, which stands for Mortuary Science Award. Each award recipient is presented with a certificate and a pin from the NACMS.
Three symbols are highlighted in the logo of this society. They are an open book placed over a spray of laurel, a lighted lamp, and the word “award.” The book is the symbol of the knowledge and wisdom of the ages. The book is open to indicate that knowledge is available to all mankind. The spray of laurel designates a symbol of achievement. The lamp of learning is a symbol of scholarship, diligence, and perseverance-irrespective of time. The word “award” is added for all to know the purpose of the award- to honor those who qualify and are chosen.
Mu Sigma Alpha Award Student Packages, which include one certificate and one pin, may be purchased by member institutions for a price of $40 per package. Payment may be made on this page.
